These reflections are a result of more than 40 years of ministry as a Roman Catholic priest. Most of these years I spent in the Diocese of Charlotte which covers Western North Carolina. Now I am retired, and live in Medellín, Colombia where I continue to serve as a priest in the Archdiocese of Medellín.

The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to believe, and the word of the Lord continued to spread through the whole region. (Acts 13:44-52)

The mission to the Gentiles will provoke one of the first great church fights. Should the Gentiles be required to follow the Law of Moses or not? The question of course deals with circumcision and the food laws, both of which are essential to Jewish identity. Paul was bitterly opposed by James and the others. Expanding the church to include those that others would reject has always been met with opposition. But the Spirit moves where the Spirit wills.
