Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Lawrence was the archdeacon of the church of Rome and was in line to become the next pope after Pope Sixtus and the other six deacons were martyred. Lawrence was arrested and ordered to surrender the treasure of the church. When he brought in the poor and declared, “Here is the treasure of the church,” he was condemned to be roasted alive.
