Now may God himself, our Father, and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you, and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we have for you, so as to strengthen your hearts, to be blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his holy ones. Amen. (1 Thes 3:7-13)

It was Oscar Wilde who famously said, “Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future.” Thanks to the prayers and the tears of his mother, Saint Monica, Saint Augustine’s past and future were transformed by God’s love. Today I remember the love of my mom, Norma Torp Boyd, who died on this day in 1996. As today’s responsorial psalm joyfully proclaims: Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy! These reflections are a result of more than 40 years of ministry as a Roman Catholic priest. Most of these years I spent in the Diocese of Charlotte which covers Western North Carolina. Now I am retired, and live in Medellín, Colombia where I continue to serve as a priest in the Archdiocese of Medellín.
