These reflections are a result of more than 40 years of ministry as a Roman Catholic priest. Most of these years I spent in the Diocese of Charlotte which covers Western North Carolina. Now I am retired, and live in Medellín, Colombia where I continue to serve as a priest in the Archdiocese of Medellín.

The man called his wife Eve, because she became the mother of all the living. (Gen 3:9-24)

There was an old song about the Sunday School: “Adam was the first man, Eve was his wife. They lived in a garden and things were pretty nice. Eve ate the apple, and Adam did the same. Got kicked outta the garden, and they started raising Cain!” The ancient Fathers and Mothers of the church always pointed out the connection between the woman’s name Eve (Eva in Latin) with the first words of the Angel to Mary, Ave (Hail).
