These reflections are a result of more than 40 years of ministry as a Roman Catholic priest. Most of these years I spent in the Diocese of Charlotte which covers Western North Carolina. Now I am retired, and live in Medellín, Colombia where I continue to serve as a priest in the Archdiocese of Medellín.

Then Jesus took the seven loaves and the fish, gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied. (Mt 15:29-37)

The actions of Jesus in the multiplication of the loaves and fishes are the same as in the consecration of the Eucharist: TAKE, BLESS, BREAK, and GIVE. And of course, there’s work for all of us: Jesus gave them to the disciples who in turn gave them to the crowds. We are called to share the Bread of Life with all the hungry. As my spiritual director used to say: the Eucharist can never actually be over as long as there are hungry people in the world.
