These reflections are a result of more than 40 years of ministry as a Roman Catholic priest. Most of these years I spent in the Diocese of Charlotte which covers Western North Carolina. Now I am retired, and live in Medellín, Colombia where I continue to serve as a priest in the Archdiocese of Medellín.

For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. (Gal 4:22-24, 26-27, 31-5:1)

Freedom has never been seen as a theological virtue, such as Faith, Hope and Love. Nevertheless, Freedom or the desire for Freedom is essential for faith, hope and love to be realized. If we are not free, then we remain enslaved to fear of punishment. But the One who is “greater than Jonah” is the One who by His Cross and Resurrection has truly set us free, free to be the children of God.
