These reflections are a result of more than 40 years of ministry as a Roman Catholic priest. Most of these years I spent in the Diocese of Charlotte which covers Western North Carolina. Now I am retired, and live in Medellín, Colombia where I continue to serve as a priest in the Archdiocese of Medellín.

Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and have you rise from them, O my people! I will put my spirit in you that you may live, and I will settle you upon your land; thus you shall know that I am the LORD. I have promised, and I will do it, says the LORD. (Ez 37:1-14)

Our final reading from the Prophet Ezekiel is this rather macabre prophecy of the Dry Bones. And even though white folks have made fun of the old spiritual, Dem Bones, the message of the prophet as well as the spiritual is dead serious. Our God can breathe new life into our dry bones so that we may live.
