Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky, and so make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered all over the earth." Then the LORD said: Let us then go down and there confuse their language, so that one will not understand what another says." The story of the Tower of Babel is not an invective against urbanism . . . rather it is a story about those who want to make a name for themselves rather than accepting the name God has given them, “My people.”
